Spring Break Activist Training – For High School Activists
Learn how to organize and build movements for transformative change.
If you care about climate change, Indigenous rights, youth, women and LGBTQ2S rights, equity and labour rights this training is for you. Learn how to organize people not just events, how to engage and empower people to be active on issues they care about. Learn to create campaigns with powerful strategies, build clear roles for activists to build momentum and leverage influence. Learn to take care of yourself so you are not burning out.
Facilitator
Marianne Cerilli - Change Agent, former MLA, health educator and community development aficionado has years of experience on various issues in various roles. She has taught with the Winnipeg School Division, UM and UW Women in Politics, and Women’s Studies, RRC in Indigenous Education Community Development.
Who should register
Maximum 30 participants. High school students and other youth activists
When - week of March 25 to March 29 (2 hours per day in the afternoon starting 1:00pm the first day)
Location: Via Zoom with one in person gathering at the Forks the last day Friday March 29.
Program or Training Outline Proposal – the time of day and hours will be by agreement.
- Day 1 March 25 at 1:00 will be a session to co-create the training through a discussion of current issues, challenges and questions youth activities face as well as possible topics, tools, and skills.
- Day 2 - 4 will be up to 2 hour sessions each afternoon. Where activists will develop action plans and strategies on issues of choice.
- Day 5 groups share and discuss implementation of their strategies.
This is hands on applied training, by the end of the week activists will have an organizing plan to implement on an issue of choice at in their school or other organization.
